Newton Local Schools receive Federal funding under Title I Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
Newton Elementary School is designated as a Title I Targeted Assistance school.
Targeted Assistance is used to provide supplemental services to students who have been determined to be at risk for low achievement in reading.
Students will be referred for Targeted Assistance Services in the following ways:
Scoring “Below or Well Below” Benchmark on Acadience Reading Assessments at the beginning of the school year or at the beginning of second semester in grades K-3.
Not passing the Ohio Reading State Test in grades 4-5.
Scoring low on the Phonics Screener for Intervention in grades K-5
Students receiving Title I through Tier 2 or Tier 3 support may:
work in small groups with interventionists or trained paraprofessionals in or outside of their classroom.
participate in targeted intervention programs in their classroom setting under the direction of their classroom teacher.
