The Zervas community is dedicated to not only the academic needs of our students, but also their social and emotional needs. Social-emotional learning (SEL) encompasses a wide variety of topics, and Newton uses the CARES acronym as a framework to organize all of our resources. CARES stands for Cooperation, Assertiveness/Advocacy, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control.
Below are links to pages with resources for each topic in the CARES framework. There are four skills to work on with students for each topic. Each skill has the following resources for adults to use: Parent Resource, Student Resource, Student Drawing Activity, Family Challenge Chart, K-2 Read Aloud, 3-5 Read Aloud, and a Pre-K Video.
