Reading
Students will have an opportunity to explore both the classroom and school libraries on a regular basis. The classroom library is organized by genre, and the school library has a wonderfully maintained electronic filing system. Taking advantage of terrific public libraries will also be encouraged.
As a homework expectation, 5th Graders are required to read at least 30 minutes outside of school per weekday. The books they choose to do this with can be up to them. Helping students pick a "just right" book can also be a team effort involving family, friend, and teacher recommendations!
Students also participate in small reading groups throughout the school year. A few reading units these class groups focus on are:
- Point of View
- Resilience/Survival
