I consider it a privilege to work in a career that I love! I find a great deal of joy in teaching and I hope that joy comes across to my students. I specifically choose to teach Physical Education because of it's impact on student development.

Student Development

Physically - Students are challenged to develop the physical skills and fitness that will serve as the foundation of their future athletic endeavors and general health.

Socially - Students are placed in social situations that require them to employ a large variety of social skills in order to be successful. I work to guide students in the development of Cooperation, Accountability, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self Control. Students learn strategies to react in a socially acceptable manner during both competitive and noncompetitive activities, and to react appropriately whether they win or lose.

Cognitively - Students are challenged to think creatively, problem solve, and use higher order thinking skills through both individual and group activities.

The best way to do all that... The 4 F's

Fitness - Every class starts with movement as soon as possible. With only 30 minutes of class time, our fitness component is usually only the first 2-5 minutes.

Focus - This is not recess! We have a standards based focus for every class. Students are involved in the assessment of their performance nearly every class.

Finish - This is when we tie it all together. Through check ins, turn and talks, and exit assessments students make concrete associations between their activity and their learning.

Fun - If Physical Education isn't bringing joy to both teacher and students, than we're doing something wrong!
