Alphabet Flash Cards

         Practice saying the names of the letters.

         Practice saying the letters’ primary sounds.

         Put the letters in ABC order.

         Lay the cards out in alphabetical order. One person says a sound, the other points to the letter.

         One person says a word, the other person points to the word’s first letter.

         Match the upper case and lower case letters.

         Think of a word that starts with the letter.

UFLI Sound Cards

         Visual Drill:  Show a letter card, state the letter name, and give its sound (or have students respond with both).       (A, /a/)

        Auditory Drill: Say a sound aloud (e.g., /m/), have students repeat it, and state the spelling pattern using the core UFLI routine: 

                                           "[Letter] spells [sound]" (e.g., "m spells /m/") while writing it down.

Irregular Word Cards

I will update the words we have learned in our newsletters. 

• One person says a word, the other finds the card.

•  Copy the words. Copy them on a white board.

• Play Memory with the cards. Be sure to read the words as you turn them over.

•  Find some word wall words on signs or in books.

• Pick a work, write a sentence using that word. 

• Pick two words, think of a sentence using both of the words.
