Private Donors

Instructions for Activating an Award Dispersed through a Private Donor

Donors pay the scholarships in two different ways:

1. Some donors will provide scholarships directly to the student. You will be contacted by the donor, or given separate instructions on how to contact the donor. This is considered a Private Pay scholarship. If you are not contacted by that donor within a timely fashion, please send correspondence to either Keven_Coster@newton.ma.k12.us or Faye_Cassell@newton.k12.ma.us and we will try to connect you with the donor.
2. Some donors provide scholarships through a Newton Public Schools account. Certificates for these awards are attached to this letter.. Please follow the directions on the bottom of the award certificate. It is your responsibility to send a copy of the enclosed award certificate(s) to the financial aid office of the college you will be attending. The certificate provides instructions to the college on how to process your scholarship. Your award will be paid directly to the college. This is the type of scholarship that we consider "Newton Pays."

If you are deferring, our policy is to hold funds up to two years. In general, all unused funds are released after three years. However, with private donors, each individual or group may have their own criteria for deferment. It is essential that you contact the donor to advise them of your plans and find out whether they can accommodate your deferral. All decisions are made by the person who provides the funds, not the school or city.

WE ADVISE YOU TO MAKE MULTIPLE COPIES OF EVERYTHING. KEEP THEM IN A SAFE PLACE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
