At a football game, taking pictures for the football spread. Photo by Tali Edelstein.
Ever since I joined Regulus, my life as a student has revolved around Regulus.
My first thought to almost everything is "I can use that for the yearbook." If I overhear an interesting story, the first thing that pops into my head is "That would be good for the __ spread. " If I hear that there is an event happening at school, like the Talent show, I immediately think to myself, "I should bring a camera for that."
My computer is filled with Regulus-related things. My desktop is overflowing with photos I downloaded to upload to Walsworth. My Google Drive's storage always has the "full-storage" alert due to the heavy amount of photos I upload. I have a window specifically designated for the yearbook, which has so many tabs open that I can't see the names of the tabs. My photos folder is filled with photos of students and teachers I don't personally know.
Regulus isn't just a tiny part of my high school life. It has become a place where I learn the most, connect with people the most, and, most importantly, find satisfaction and fulfillment the most. It has become my go-to place when seeking a break from academics that constantly add stress to my already hectic life. It is a vital part of my life that I can't imagine my days without it.
My roles in Regulus:
Sophomore year - Staff in the Carousel team (the team names were all related to a ride in amusement parks)
Junior year - applied and got the position of Managing Editor in Design and a team leader of the stick bugs (the team names were all related to bugs)
Senior year - applied and became the Editor in Chief along with two other EiCs, Mia and Tali.
Journalism Conventions I have attended:
CSPA (Mar 15-17, 2023)
JEA/NSPA (Nov 3, 2023)
CSPA (Mar 13-15, 2024)
Award:
Walsworth Gallery of Excellence (awarded to Volume. 63)
Editors-in-Chiefs Mia, Tali, and I at the end of club photo day.
Here are some words you should know what they mean before going through the rest of my portfolio:
Newton South or "South" - the name of the high school I attend
Regulus - The yearbook club is called Regulus (coming from the star in the Leo constellation).
Walsworth - The website we use to create the yearbook
Volume 64 - Our current book is volume 64. I have been in the yearbook club since volume 62.
