Light Me Up:

Color Perception and Fidelity Preferences of Skin Complexion

A lighting designer considers a variety of lighting metrics to enhance spaces such as color temperature and CRI, but what about the people in them? How can lighting designers specify light for spaces like bathrooms and cosmetic retail spaces with the individuality of the user in mind?

This project examines light hue, saturation, and color temperature to see how they affect the user's preferences and skin color appearance.

This study explores preferences for different lighting scenes, through variations in hue, the saturation of red light, and color temperature; and, provides recommendations for lighting spaces where skin complexion is critical.

This project was awarded the Parsons Thesis Prize for Lighting Design Application.
