Join your classmates in a Festive First-Year Making Extravaganza!
Drop in this Friday to a series of introductory, informal, hands-on sessions with the amazing Faculty from Parsons and the Performing Arts. Bounce between floors and processes at the 2 W 13th St building and meet your fellow students while you make stuff and have fun.

Healthy Materials Lab
Meet the HML's crew as you Paint with Minerals, Not Plastic!
Explore mineral-based paint as a healthier alternative to the petroleum-derived acrylics. Paint or stamp your own take-home piece, bring an old shirt, bag, or object to upcycle, or use one of ours while supplies last. Or, add a brushstroke to our collaborative mural!
Nibbling Conscience + The NEW Store
TNS - T-Shirt Competition. The New Store has collaborated with Nibbling Conscience during the 2025/2026 school year to create the inaugural T-shirt Competition. The winning design will be unveiled and available for purchase at Let’s Get Making. Students will have the opportunity to meet the designer, learn about the competition, purchase their own shirts and decorate them.

The Room We Make (Room 401)
Slow down, listen, rest, and create. Join Performing Arts faculty, Jane Rigler, as they guide you to recline within a relaxing soundscape and respond with a drawing, poem, reflection, or question on a small card. Take the creation home as a personal offering, or contribute it to an evolving room-sized artwork, co-creating a collective exhibit with other participants. Return throughout the orientation day to see how individual offerings gather, connect, and transform the space. How do we make room for ourselves and for one another?
Let's Get Moving for Creativity! (Room N 400)
Sometimes a little movement goes a long way in shaking out a creative block! Join the Performing Arts faculty, Katherine K. Willis, to Boost your Creativity through fun somatics and yoga style movements designed to get the creative juices flowing! All bodies and abilities welcome!

Triangles! Triangles! Modular Wood Dome (Room 602)
Sawing, sanding, cutting, and connecting, you will make triangles out of wood dowels, vinyl tubing, and zip ties. These triangles will combine to make hexagons that combine to make a dome! Come make a singular triangle with Parsons faculty Natalia Zubko and Peter Mallo, or stay to finish the full hexagonal or pentagonal dome.
Hand-Sewing Hats (Room 603)
Join us to create your own custom hats with an array of fun sewing materials! Parsons faculty members Wennie Huang and Carolina Obregon will be around to help you make some exceptional headgear for the new year.
Postcard Portal (Room 802)
Step into the future through the Postcard Portal! What are your Hopes? Goals? Anxieties? Excitements about this moment as you are? Parsons faculty, Mike Rader and Sherry Bittle will guide you to make a postcard to yourself today, that will be delivered to your future self. Add a drawing, a doodle, or a symbol that represents how you are feeling or what you hope to remember about this moment. Whatever you capture today will come back to you around week 10 – receiving it right when you might need it most - the start of Finals weeks!

Photo Projections and Green Screens, Oh My! Stop by this DIY photography studio space to create your own photo backdrop, group photo and portraits using digital cameras, lighting, and creative software! Join Parsons Faculty to get familiar with photography equipment and effects you may experience in First Year and beyond.
