Spring 2024
Students from Parsons (including Parsons Scholars Program) will be invited to apply for a 2-week residency opportunity at Casa Otro in Mesilla, New Mexico, or at Borderland Arts Initiative in El Paso, TX. Simultaneously, students from borderland colleges and universities will be able to apply for a 2-week residency opportunity at Borderland Arts Initiative and The Bishop Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
Summer 2024
One student from the Border region will be the artist in residence at The Bishop Gallery, one student from Parsons will be the artist in residence at Casa Otro, and one (or more) students from either location will be the artist in residence at Borderland Arts Initiative. Each residency site will provide studio space and/or support toward the creation of new work along with opportunities to collaborate with artists and lead out a workshop and an artist talk during their time in residence.
Fall 2024
An open call for time-based, 2D, and 3D student work will go out Fall 2024 to students from Parsons (including Parsons Scholars Program), NMSU, DACC, UTEP and EPCC. The solicitation of the open call will include a virtual info session regarding how to apply and will be shared via Parsons/The New School news blasts and social media accounts, and the appropriate avenues for announcements that all other partners use.
Students will submit digital files (via a google form) of up to 3 works that strongly relate to the updated curatorial statement(s) Leslie Moody Castro constructs for the exhibitions. Work submitted must fit the following constraints:
Time based works: video or audio no longer than 5 minutes, to be viewed on a digital projector
2D works: any medium on any surface but must be able no larger than 16”x20”x2” for shipping
3D works: must be able to fit in a USPS flat rate priority mailbox, and must have clear, easy to follow instructions for installation and display.
Installation proposals will not be selected
Winter 2024-2025
Exhibitions containing work from pre-selected working artists, along with the work from students selected for residency opportunities and the open call will be on display at Parson’s Aronson Gallery, Casa Otro, Borderland Arts Initiative, and The Bishop Gallery. Each exhibition site will be uniquely curated by a curatorial team lead out by Leslie Moody Castro which will make final selections of work and finalize the layout.
Public Programming during the run of each show will also be shared by all participating institutions. Programming can include virtual artist panels, viewing nights for selected video work, and workshops lead by artists open to students and the wider public.
December 2024 | Casa Otro Exhibition
Programming will include:
New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, English Department Poetry Readings engaging with the themes of the exhibition.
Participating artist Isadora Stowe, Professor at EPCC, will present an art workshop for the local community about “building your own narrative Syntax”
The Student Artist is residence will present a workshop engaging the local community.
University of Texas at El Paso, 4307 Feminist Philosophy Course will engage in a dialogue project of the work citing visual rhetoric and its philosophical implications and present a panel discussion in the gallery.

Selected Student Video Work Viewing Night
Showcases or recapping of the pilot visual arts ensemble program “Access to Multi-Media Art” (AMMA)
Exhibition Note: The focus of this exhibition will be on showcasing student work, particularly those selected as BAI artists in residence over the summer.
February 2025 | Parsons’ Aronson Gallery Exhibition
Programming will include:
Selected Student Video Work Viewing Night| All short videos/time works selected for the exhibition will be previewed in the Kellen Auditorium, with a short student introduction between each work.
Participating Artist Isadora Stowe, Professor at EPCC, will lead a creative workshop focused on “building your own narrative Syntax”
Virtual Panel with participating Artists + Open discussion regarding the general theme of the exhibition
