ABC Book Club
By Jackson Katz
The ABC Book Club is a fun club if you want to hang out and talk about reading. ABC stands for “A Book Club”. Ms. Rosen created the club because she wanted to talk about books with kids. This year, they are reading The Great Gatsby, but they read more than one book a year so stay tuned. ABC book club meets on Wednesday and or Thursday in room 38 every other week. Ms. Rosen posts updates on what pages to read each week in the google classroom.
In addition to reading books, they make book crafts, talk about books, and just have a good time. They make flowers, bookmarks, and wreaths out of old books to name a few. The book arch outside the library was a massive book craft that the book club. It was made by drilling holes in the books and stringing them onto a massive pole and kids painted the mural, which was of the book The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Mr. Pizzarello and Ms. Sheldon were both a massive help towards the arch. The PTA is very helpful towards the club, as they help Ms. Rosen get books. If you have any more questions, Ms. Rosen is the adviser of the club, so she's the person to ask.
Seminar
By Jackson Katz
Seminar is a new class that has been added for 7th and 8th graders. It is a class dedicated to teaching you six course skills and using activities to do that. The six skills are self-awareness, adaptability, empathy, collaboration, agency, and purpose. The activities they use for this are fun, teamwork games, such as working together to build a tower out of paper, doing a maze with your eyes closed and someone else guiding you. These activities make you better at working with other people and make you better understand yourself. It is all around a great addition to the school.
MSTV
by Camille Reid
There are many clubs at New Paltz Middle School, but none like MSTV. It is the middle school's only morning club! MSTV meets every morning, so you go there instead of going to the gym or auditorium. We film the morning announcements and if you join, you will have a chance to be on them!
I personally love the club because I can go all the time and have fun, without it getting in the way of other clubs, although that is just my opinion. Plus, you will have already heard the announcements, so you don’t have to pay that much attention later!
Also, if you want to join, but don't want to be on the announcements, that's cool too! There are lots of other jobs that don’t involve being on camera. MSTV has jobs for writers, schedulers, directors, editors, TV personalities, and more!
