Hello! 🙂 My name is Emma Chalmers and I'm an AIS Reading Teacher at Lenape Elementary School.
I graduated from the College of Saint Rose with a Bachelor's degree in Childhood Education and Special Education. I received my Master's in Childhood Literacy from Hunter College. After graduating, I worked in both charter and public schools in New York City as a third grade Special Education Teacher. After four years in the city, I taught for six years in Hudson, NY as a Special Education Literacy Teacher (Grades K-5).
This will be my first full year at Lenape Elementary School! I started as a Literacy Specialist in March 2024. Having grown up in the Hudson Valley, I'm thrilled to be back and am so excited to be a part of the New Paltz Community. I look forward to supporting students in reading, building strong relationships, and fostering joy in the learning process.Â
When I'm not teaching, I love to be active and outside. I enjoy hiking, biking, running, yoga, and skiing. The Gunks are one of my favorite places to adventure with my fiancé and our dog, Chimi. I've also recently started my journey toward completing all 46 peaks in the Adirondacks.
