Meet your Teachers, Ms. Miranda and Mr. Monheit!

Mr. Monheit

I grew up in Stony Brook, New York (Long Island) with an older brother, an older sister, a very playful yellow labrador named Heidi, and parakeets named Twinkle Star and Tupper. After working as a pastry chef through high school at a local bakery, I decided to attend SUNY New Paltz in 2007 to earn my teaching degree. I have always enjoyed working with children, and I love to teach and help them explore new things! I then returned to SUNY New Paltz in 2010 to earn my masters degree, and became certified in Literacy and Special Education. I graduated at the top of my class in 2012, winning the School of Education's outstanding graduate award. After substutite teaching and completing a few leave replacements, I recieved a full time special education job at Lenape in 2013. I have been happily working in this wonderful district ever since!

When I am not working at the job I love, I enjoy spending my time with my dog, Alvin! Some of our favorite things to do are going on long walks and hikes, and hitting the local dog park (Okay, to be honest those are really his favorite things to do :).  I also enjoy playing sports (especially hockey), reading, playing the drums, and keeping up with my favorite hockey team, the New York Rangers! I am also an avid fan of the arts and sciences, having taken art lessons all the way up until high school, performing in a few school plays, and teaching at a science camp.

In recent exciting news I got married to my lovely wife Heather in June 2023!

Ms. Miranda

My name is Ms. Miranda, and I live with my husband Johnny and our newborn daughter Makenzie. Isn't she just the cutest?! She is such a happy baby, and her smile lights up the room!

I grew up in Wappingers Falls, NY with my mom Joanne, my dad Joseph and my younger brother Todd. I am an animal LOVER and have always grown up with dogs and cats in my house. I am especially fond of black Pugs! 😍

I graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a master's degree in Literacy. I have always loved caring for children. I began babysitting at a very young age. I then became a camp counselor, followed by a pre-school teacher, an assistant director of a pre-school, a substitute teacher and tutor and finally a reading teacher. I taught reading for 10 years and then decided that it was time to try something new. This is my fifth year teaching third grade, and I have never loved anything more!! I absolutely LOVE my job, my students and their families and all of my co-workers. I have never felt happier or more at home than I do in New Paltz, and I am so looking forward to seeing what the future brings!
