What Parents Say

"Learning to play an instrument and being a member of the band provides a real sense of achievement and accomplishment. It also helps develop self-discipline while achieving a team goal of a successful performance. Learning to play an instrument is something that stays with you your entire life. Band also provides is a good niche for your student to help navigate the rigors of 'school life'. Our son has thoroughly enjoyed his first year of band and has made great progress in learning to play his instrument! We highly recommend being part of the band program." - Jeffrey B.

"Involvement in band has enriched my children's education, and while some benefits are realized now, there are also lasting impacts for the future. Band has given them a sense of belonging, not with one particular type of people, but with a group of people represented by varied interests, even beyond music. Our two children have also played six sports at NPJH, and while athletics provides its own rewarding experience, being involved in band develops a unique skill set that cannot be found anywhere else." - Michelle B.

"We have two students in Band. At the very least, the ability to play an instrument will be a skill they will have for a lifetime. However, band is so much more than that. Band becomes like a family to the kids, a strong sense of community where they support each other and learn responsibility, hard work, loyalty, leadership, and how to take pride in a job well done." - Mary D.

"... I think all of us were a little hesitant about her venture into something completely new as no-one in our family played an instrument. From the beginning though it has been such a joy for her. She learned what it's like to try something new; something outside of her comfort zone. She has grown and matured as a person and a musician. She enjoys learning new songs, being challenged to learn a higher note or a new technique and is proud of her accomplishment. She learned not everything comes easy, but with hard work, dedication, and practice you can achieve more than you think you can. That lesson not only benefits her in band, but is a foundation for school and life as a whole. We’ll always be thankful to Mr. Wilson and the entire band program for instilling the love of music into our kids, and for the patience, support, and care given to help them grow in so many more way than just music."- Sarah K.

"I am so grateful that my kids have had the opportunity to be in the NPJH band. There are so many positive benefits from getting a musical background, but my favorite is that it is fun. My kids have enjoyed band class, they love sharing their music with an audience, and our family enjoys listening. Gaining a musical background helps our kids become better, well-rounded individuals." - Laura L.

" Band has been something I'm glad to have my son do. He learns something new outside of his other school work. It has helped his self-esteem to know that he is accomplishing more than he thought he could. I love to see my sons face light up when he plays and gets things just right!" - Joanna P.

"Becoming a member of the school band was an easy and exciting choice for my son. I love how it has allowed him to explore a new instrument, but even more, I love how he has become a part of the school culture. His experiences in band have provided him with confidence, discipline, creativity, and friendships." - Jennifer N.

"All 3 of our children have participated in junior high band. Mr. Wilson does a great job of motivating the students, reaching them at their level and making it fun! We highly recommend all incoming sixth graders giving band a try!" - Kendra O.
