March's theme is nonfiction texts, and we are focusing on dinosaurs! We will be opening a dinosaur dig in our dramatic play center and learning about all the different jobs people have related to learning about dinosaurs! We will also learn the difference between fiction and nonfiction books and the purpose of each type of book!

Our theme for the month of February is Friendship and Feelings. We are practicing this by reading books about friendship, how to express our feelings in a healthy way, and by learning how to be good friends! We also have a Vet Center for Dramatic Play and we are having so much fun being good friends to our pets!

In October, we got our Classroom Jobs! Every student has a job, whether they are helping to put away library books, leading the line, getting the milk for snack time, or giving a goodbye at the door at the end of the day.

At the beginning of October, we finally opened our Dramatic Play center, which is currently set up as a play Kitchen/House. We even have our giant pumpkin from Mares in the kitchen right now! Students are loving pretending to be moms and dads, cooking silly concoctions for each other, and of course, investigating our enormous pumpkin!

I also got out our TumbleTrax magnetic marble run. I love this marble run, because it sets up right on the white board, instead of the floor. We are much less likely to trip when our toys are not underfoot! This toy lets us learn some science concepts like gravity, momentum, and action and reaction. (I don't use those specific words with our 4K friends, but will say things like, "What do you think will happen if the marble run is flat, straight across? Will the marble roll fast or slow?") The other skill we practice in this center is responsibility - there are only 4 marbles, and the children in the center need to make sure that they keep track of their marbles, and ask for help finding them right away if they roll away. So far, no lost marbles!!

We all had big smiles while we practiced for Picture Day!!
