Please note that these words are used as a tool for practicing and retaining our phonemic "sounds of the week." These words are not formally tested, but I encourage you to identify and practice each week's "sound" at home with your child. These words will also be used and practiced on a weekly basis in the classroom.

Week 14 - Silent w with r


Challenge Words: wrecker, wrestler, wrinkle, wrongfully, wristband, wretched, wrapper


Week 9 - Consonant pair /nk/

The letter combination nk makes the sound /ŋk/.  We hear this sound in the words:

Week 8 - Consonant pair /ng/

The letter combination ng makes the sound /ŋ/.  We hear this sound in the words:

Week 7 - Soft consonant g /j/ 

When the letter "g" is followed by a y, i, or e, it makes the soft /j/ sound.


Challenge Words: germinate, general, agitate, encourage

 


Week 6 - Soft consonant c /s/ 

When the letter "c" is followed by a y, i, or e, it makes the soft /s/ sound.


Challenge Words: ceiling, cinnamon, emergency, decision

 


Week 5 - R-controlled vowel: /ur/
