After School Program: FAQs
Q: Can my child ride the bus from school to your facility?
Yes, transportation to our center is provided by Wisconsin Heights School Systems. We are an official bus stop for Wisconsin Heights Elementary School.
Q: What age group does the After School Program serve?
The After School Program serves children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. We are not yet enrolling children ages birth–4 years; that phase will launch in the future as part of our Early Learning Program.
Q: Will the After School Program include faith-based teaching?
This program does not include formal Bible instruction, but our staff lead with values of love, respect, grace, and responsibility. We believe every child is worth knowing and nurturing—and that our everyday actions reflect deeper values.
Q: Who will be leading the program?
Our After School team includes caring, trained individuals with experience supporting school-age children. Staff will model leadership, kindness, and responsibility while creating a fun, encouraging space every afternoon.
Q: Is there a formal curriculum?
The After School Program is play-based and exploratory, designed for children to unwind, move, create, and connect after a structured school day. We offer creative projects, hands-on activities, games, dramatic play, homework support, and more—always with flexibility and joy at the center.
Q: What values guide this program?
While this isn’t a faith-instruction program, our mission and philosophy remain central. We nurture traits like kindness, curiosity, cooperation, and confidence, and guide behavior through grace-filled, restorative approaches that support healthy growth and relationships.
Q: Will my child be allowed to use a phone or device during care?
We aim to keep the program screen-free, with only limited structured use for group activities. We want kids to be present—building friendships, expressing creativity, and engaging in real play.
Q: Will there be special holiday activities?
Yes! We'll celebrate with seasonal crafts, themed games, and simple activities throughout the year. Families may opt out of anything that doesn’t align with their values or traditions.
Q: How is discipline handled?
We take a relational, restorative approach to conflict or discipline. Staff help children work through challenges with empathy and accountability, always reinforcing that mistakes are part of growing, and that each child is loved and capable of growth.
Q: How does this program shape my child’s worldview?
We believe every child is learning how to treat others and see themselves in the world. Through intentional care, grace-filled leadership, and meaningful relationships, we shape children to be confident, kind, and community-minded—even without formal faith teaching.
Early Learning Center: FAQs
Coming in a future phase, our Early Learning Program will serve children from birth through pre-K, with full-day, faith-based care. Many parents have asked what that program will include—here’s a preview:
Q: What is NHNK’s faith affiliation, and how is faith integrated?
NHNK is a Christian-based program, shaped by the love and teachings of Jesus. While we welcome families from all backgrounds, our Early Learning Program will include gentle spiritual rhythms—like prayer, Bible stories, and worship songs—as part of the daily flow.
Q: What do you mean by “the story” in your mission?
We believe children are part of God’s story—a story of creation, redemption, and love. Through daily conversations and activities, children will begin to understand that they’re not just growing up, they’re growing into the people God made them to be.
Q: How do you support emotional and spiritual development?
We foster an environment where children feel safe, seen, and supported. Faith practices like storytelling, prayer, and reflection help children build a strong inner foundation of peace, compassion, and identity.
Q: How will NHNK prepare my child for public school?
We help children transition well—teaching them what to expect, how to navigate change, and that they can carry their faith with them wherever they go. We want every child to leave with clarity, confidence, and a strong sense of self.
Q: What kind of curriculum do you use in early learning?
We use a theme-based, play-centered curriculum that supports growth across all areas—academic, social, emotional, and spiritual. Each week includes a letter, number, color, character trait, Bible story, and hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and character.
Q: What are the qualifications and faith backgrounds of staff?
Our team includes individuals trained in early childhood development and passionate about nurturing the whole child. Staff may come from various backgrounds, but all are aligned with our Christ-centered values and our commitment to kind, excellent care.
Q: How does NHNK handle behavior concerns?
Whether in preschool or after school, we see discipline as discipleship—an opportunity to learn, grow, and be reminded of grace. We avoid shame and punishment, and instead use calm guidance, natural consequences, and restorative conversations.
Q: How do you partner with parents?
We communicate early, often, and with care. Whether a challenge is big or small, we’ll loop in families and work together to support growth. We see you as partners—not just in behavior but in your child’s overall journey.
Q: Where can I find more detailed information?
Our Family Handbook includes everything from tuition and schedules to policies and pick-up procedures. Enrolled families will receive a copy, and it will be made available by request during the application process.
