Technology is everywhere and it is playing an increasingly dominant and important role in our world and indeed, in our lives. Don't forget that your cell phone is a very powerful computer.
Computers are tools and just like every other tool designed by humans, computers are designed to do work for us. They are designed to do work quicker and more easily than a human could do the same work. Remember that your cell phone is a computer, a very useful and capable computer. AI is also extremely powerful and becoming increasingly prevalent.
This technology is not going away. It is only going to get better and increasingly prevalent and so, it is important to learn about it and to learn how to utilise it effectively.
The goal in teaching EduTech is to help students:
Recognize the universality of computer use and its growing importance in our world.
Understand the role and prevalence of coding, along with its significance in shaping modern technology.
Grasp the potential and power of AI, learning how to use it effectively and responsibly.
Develop competence and efficiency in using computers for various purposes.
Foster an understanding of coding while encouraging students to become skilled, confident, and enthusiastic about it.
I am Bruce Eyles, the new computer teacher at New Hanover Preparatory.
I have been teaching for 32 years. That time has been spent at two prestigious boys schools. I am a high school English teacher by qualification but I have fulfilled many different roles in my teaching career. I have also been deeply committed to the extra-mural programmes at my previous schools.
Due to my interest in computers and my related capabilities, including my coding ability, I became Head of Integrated Computer Education at my previous school. I held this position and also taught EduTech for the past 7 years.
This website is my opportunity to share some of my thoughts and ideas about teaching and learning about computers and about coding.
