What is SRBI?
SRBI Stands for Scientific Research Based Intervention. Our students receive systematic instruction if they are not meeting the benchmarks for academics that we would expect.
How are Students Identified?
All students are screened multiple times throughout the year to assess their levels in reading and math. The programs or tools that are used are iReady, the Fountas and Pinnell (F&P) reading levels, running record reading assessments and Fundations assessments. In kindergarten, ESGI data is also used. If students are flagged as falling below the expected levels in either reading or math, the classroom teacher will use their “bag of tricks” to try different instructional strategies. If needed, they will consult with administration and coaches to try to get the student caught up with Tier I (general classroom instruction) supports. If these supports are not helping the student make gains, the team will bring the student up at a CST or Child Study Team meeting and discuss next steps such as intervention.
What happens if my student needs intervention?
Parents are notified of the fact that their child has been identified for the intervention program and they start receiving small group instruction to work on targeted, specific skills to close the gap and help move their skills up to the expected level. The cycles run for 6-8 weeks and then the team reconvenes to look at the data and determine if the student has successfully mastered the skill, in which case they might be exited from intervention, or perhaps they need more support and would move up to a higher tier.
Will I be told about their progress?
Parents will be notified of how their student has done in intervention and whether they require more support, less support or no additional support at all.
