USTA National Wheelchair Tennis Coach
Paul Walker is a premier figure in adapted tennis, blending his experience as an elite athlete with world-class coaching expertise. A retired U.S. Army Captain and Buffalo native, Paul turned to wheelchair tennis at age 33, eventually reaching a world ranking of No. 31 and competing in the inaugural 2005 US Open Wheelchair Competition.
Since joining the USTA in 2005, he has become a cornerstone of the sport’s development. His career is defined by a commitment to excellence, both on the international stage and at his alma mater, Florida Southern College.
National Leadership: Serves as a USTA National Coach for Team USA, leading athletes at prestigious events like the World Team Cup.
Award-Winning Coaching: Named the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Coach of the Year in 2013.
Athletic Pedigree: Achieved a career-high U.S. ranking of No. 4 and currently serves as the Assistant Coach for the Florida Southern women’s tennis team.
Elite Credentials: Holds top-tier certifications including USTA High Performance, PTR Professional, and USPTA Elite Professional.
Developing Talent: Spearheads national junior camps and development teams to mentor the next generation of adaptive champions.
USTA National Wheelchair Tennis Coach
With five years of specialized experience in the adapted sports landscape, Brendan has become a pivotal figure in expanding the reach of wheelchair tennis across the country.
His career in wheelchair tennis began with a foundational role as the Regional Provider for the USTA Northern Section. During this five-year tenure, he was instrumental in driving regional growth, fostering community engagement, and increasing accessibility for athletes throughout the section.
USTA National Wheelchair Committee: Contributing to the strategic oversight and policy development of the sport nationwide.
National Junior Development Coaching Staff: Serving as a mentor for the next generation of wheelchair tennis stars.
Current Capacity:
Junior Camps: Leading high-performance training environments for youth athletes to develop technical and tactical excellence.
Coach Education: Traveling nationally to educate and certify coaches, ensuring that tennis professionals are equipped with the specialized expertise required to grow the wheelchair game in their own communities.
Through a combination of grassroots advocacy and national leadership, Brendan remains dedicated to elevating the standards of coaching and player development in the wheelchair tennis community.
Coaches and volunteers are needed for the delivery of the on-court experience at the All-Comers
Wheelchair Tennis Camp.
Coaches with wheelchair tennis coaching experience are preferred.
All coaches and volunteers must be Safe Play approved.
USTA New England will provide stipends for up to three New England coaches:
Coaches assisting with on-court delivery for all three days.
Coaches traveling more than an hour to and from the YMCA Emilson, Hanover MA
