General Information

Classroom Expectations

1. Listen when your teacher is talking.

2. Follow directions quickly.

3. Respect yourself, others, and your school.

4. Raise your hand to speak or stand

5. Be safe, be kind, be honest.

For our classroom behavior system we will be using a clip chart. The philosophy behind the clip chart is to teach students to self-manage their own behavior. It also encourages growth mindset. One bad choice does not ruin the day. There are many opportunities to move up the chart throughout the day. Students will be able to earn points for good choices/behavior, and will be able to trade in those points for a variety of rewards/prizes.

***Physically harming another student may result an office referral.***

***The discipline policy may be modified/individualized if the need arises. Parents will be notified of changes.***

Binder and Planner

Your child will bring their Binder/Planner to and from school daily. Please check it and sign it every day as this will be one of our main ways to communicate. I will check the Binder/Planner each morning for any notes or any changes in transportation.

Water Bottles

Students are given the opportunity to have a water bottle in class as needed, as well as for after physical activity such as recess or PE. Please send a clear, reusable water bottle containing only water (no juice or flavored water please) with your child's name on.

Transportation Changes

We understand that sometimes changes need to be made to after school dismissal procedures. If your child needs to go home a different way, please send a written note that includes your child's name and the transportation change to school. If you cannot send a note, please call the front office no later than 2:00pm to ensure our classroom will be notified before dismissal.

Headphones

Your child may choose to bring headphones or earbuds to keep at school for personal in class use.

Recess/gym shoes and extra clothes:

We have afternoon recess at 12:20. We do go outside almost every day. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. I suggest keeping an extra set of clothes in your child's book bag for wet or muddy days or in case of an accident. Gym shoes are needed for PE days (Wednesday).

Birthdays

Birthdays are very special days in first grade. Please feel free to send a store bought treat (District Policy) for your child to share with the class. If your child has a summer Birthday we will celebrate in May. Treats will be enjoyed in the afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m. Please check with me for our class size, as it changes frequently throughout the school year. If your child is having a birthday party and would like to send invitations to school to give to their friends, please make sure you invite the whole class! We cannot pass out invitations to select individuals (school policy).
