Summer Reading & Learning from Home!
Summer learning can be fun and help students prepare for the upcoming school year!
The district has prepared activities for students who attended NBPS in 2024-2025, who will be continuing with the District next school year, entering Grades 1 through 8.
Students can access all activities through Class Link on their school issued Chromebook, or from a personal device. Link here for instructions for accessing on a personal device.
ELA - Let's Read!
Math - Dive into Some Numbers!
Science - Let's Investigate!
Arts - Try Something New!
New to New Bedford Public Schools? Welcome! Your students can learn this summer too!!
New students, whether registered for Kindergarten or an upper grade, can still enjoy some summer learning fun! The Science and Arts activities are fully accessible on this website, in slide decks posted below this message. The math activities, with the exception of My Path, are also available in these slide decks. Though myON (for online reading) is only accessible to students entering grades 1-8 who were enrolled in the New Bedford Public Schools during the 2024-2025 School Year, ALL students can read ANYTHING and ANYWHERE! We encourage ALL families to visit New Bedford Free Public Library locations, and sites on New Bedford’s Free Book Map for tons of books and free fun activities throughout the summer.
This summer we want students to read whatever they want! We just want them to read! They can choose to read books, magazines or resources online. All NBPS students entering grades 1-8 have access to myON, an online reading program that provides age appropriate ‘news’ and online books in both English and Spanish! The program allows students to search for texts by topic and other parameters. In addition the program will recommend books and articles based on the ones students have already chosen. Click on grade level slide decks below to find out more about summer reading and learning!
Math practice can take many forms, and it can be fun! There are a few activities posted for students in each grade. We’d love for all students to do all the activities, but if that’s not possible, here’s what to prioritize:
Summer Math Journal Prompts (Grades K-5)
MyPath for 30/45 min. (Grades 1-8; K play the Games & Do Posted Activities)
Math Calendar Activities (Grades 1-8)
Note: Summer Math Journal Prompts, Math Calendar and other Activities are all previewing content for the grade students are entering. MyPath on iReady will adjust based on student past performance and will address skills they need to build; this may mean the work presented is below grade level, but is still important! Click on grade level slide decks below to find out more about summer reading and learning!
There is an exciting Science Bingo Board for each grade level! These boards present experiences that will help students to preview and build their understanding of ideas they will come across next school year! Some activities may require adult assistance or permission from adults, and this has been clearly outlined in the student instructions. For your information, we have also posted the cards here. Click on grade level slide decks below to find out more about summer reading and learning!
We encourage students to explore music, visual art, theater and dance this summer! Students can watch a video about each discipline, be presented with an activity they can do at home, and more! Students can access these activities through Class Link, and we have posted them here for families as well. Click on grade level slide decks below to find out more about summer reading and learning!
