Ulysses Sherman Alderman, youngest child of Theodore Elihu Alderman and Hannah A. Reynolds, the founders of the town of Nevada, Story County, Iowa. He was born in the town founded by his parents on August 2, 1865. He attended school here and graduated with the class of 1883.
He went into the hardware business with his father and on March 25, 1890 he married Janette Martha Klove, daughter of Edwin J. Klove and Christina Howard of Nevada. He served as mayor of Nevada in 1892. In 1895, being dissatisfied with his line of work, he determined to study law and entered the law school at the State University of Iowa. He graduated from that institution in 1897, being the president of the law class.
Returning to Nevada with his wife and son, he set up his law practice. During World War I, he was a leader in Red Cross organizations in Story County, in Liberty Loan drives and other patriotic work. In 1918 he was elected representative in the 38th Iowa General Assembly from January 1919 to January 1921, He collapsed and died suddenly of a heart condition on May 14, 1926 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa. He was survived by his wife and one son, Ralph Klove Alderman.
