George Adolph Klove, son of Edwin J. Klove and Christina Howard, was born January 16, 1867 in Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. He obtained his education in the common schools in that area and in September 1883, at the age of sixteen, he came to Nevada where his parents’ first cousin, I. A. Ringheim had established a mercantile business several years before. Wishing to pursue that same line of work, he clerked in a mercantile business in Nevada.
He married Nevada native Sylvia Louise Thompson, daughter of Franklin Dewey Thompson and Abbie N. Price, on October 16, 1895 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa. In 1896 he was appointed Deputy Story County Treasurer in which capacity he served four years. He was then elected Story County Treasurer and served two terms in that office.
Following his service in public office, he became assistant cashier in First National Bank in Nevada. He was then elected mayor of Nevada and served two terms from 1903 to 1904 as well as two more terms on city council from 1906 to 1907. He was secretary of the Nevada School Board for four years.
About 1929, George Klove and his family removed from Nevada and became a cashier in a Los Angeles, California bank. By 1940, Mr. Klove had retired and he and his wife were living with their son, Herman, and family in Los Angeles. George A. Klove died on June 11, 1951 in Glendale, Los Angeles County, California. He was survived by his wife and two sons, Herman Thompson Klove and Sumner Edwin Klove.
