Clifford W. Padellford, son of Orrin Denny Padellford and Myrtle May Mayo, was born November 16, 1912 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Nevada. On September 19, 1931 he married Nevada native Vere A. Nelson, daughter of Frederick W. Nelson and Edna Rachel Smith, in Carthage, Illinois.
The couple established their home in Nevada and, with the help of his wife. Mr. Padellford owned and operated the Hi-Way Café at 625 Lincoln Way in Nevada. About 1945, the Hi-Way Café changed locations to 1023 Sixth Street in Nevada.
Clifford Padellford served three terms as mayor of Nevada from 1949 to August of 1954. He presided over many Centennial events when the town celebrated its 100th birthday in 1953.
In 1954, the Padellford family removed to Des Moines where Mr. Padellford purchased a restaurant. He opened the Del-Mar Café at 1307 Locust in Des Moines retiring from the restaurant business about 1975. He died on April 15, 1983 in Tucson, Arizona. He was survived by his wife and three daughters,
