IoT meets AI

International Summer School

2nd - 5th September 2019 in Munich, Germany

The Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) profoundly change our professional and private lives. The IoT enables managing physical environments with software. Artificial Intelligence (AI) or more precisely Machine Learning enables new ways of processing data and identifying or predicting their development.

Consequently, expertise in both areas is highly valuable to survive in the digital world today.

The international summer school on "IoT meets AI" gathers lecturers from academia and industry to teach on the overlaps of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), discuss current challenges and mutually develop new ideas. Lectures will be on topics such as IoT device integration, adaptation and interoperability, semantic technologies, IoT orchestration, data analytics and machine learning.

The target audience of this summer school are students, researchers, developers and practitioners who are interested in acquiring knowledge and experience on IoT and the application of AI in this context. In order to be capable of taking part in the hands-on sessions and contributing to team projects, proficiency in a programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Go, Python, or C), basic experience with an IDE (e.g., Eclipse), and code-sharing tools (e.g., GIT) are required. Please note that you need to bring your own laptop computer.

The participants will be challenged to engage and apply the learned methods and technologies in team projects. In fun and intensive hands-on sessions participants get together in small teams (2-3 people) to develop solutions for challenges defined in the beginning of the summer school. The lecturers will support the students in developing their solutions.

The educational objectives of this summer school are to get an overview of IoT technologies and the application of AI for IoT. You will learn how to implement applications that integrate IoT devices and AI frameworks. In the end you will be able to understand and implement development strategies to create your own IoT / AI solutions.

All participants are given a chance to present their current work as part of a poster session on the first day. Particularly, researchers and Ph.D./M.Sc. students are encouraged to present their work here. The summer school will be a great opportunity to receive feedback from your peers.

After registration, you will be asked to send the title and abstract of your poster to the organizers.

Taking place at the beginning of September 2019, we will show you the beauty of Munich. This includes a visit around the Oktoberfest site. 2 weeks after our school, thousands will celebrate there.

With our summer school we foster a new generation of engineers with strong skills in Industry 4.0 technologies including IoT and AI.

Don’t miss it!

The summer school is supported by the Center of Knowledge Interchange (CKI) - Cooperation of Technische Universität München (TUM) and Siemens, and the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future.
