Putting flow into practice can be utilized both inside and outside of a classroom setting. Although there are ways for people to enhance their writing experiences outside of the classroom, we found that the best way to implement the skills to creating flow and engaging in the writing process is through classroom instruction.
"The chief impediments to learning are not cognitive. It is not that students cannot learn; it is that they do not wish to." (Csikszentmihalyi 1990, pg. 115)
As teachers it is important to understand that students need to be trained in how to utilize their attention. Without training, one cannot simply sit down and focus on a task at hand. There are particular components to triggering concentration, a big one being meaningful connection. If students do not understand how the lesson goals will impact their ability to interact with real life situations, then students will not be motivated to learn. Without motivation, one cannot reach the flow experience.
