Instructions for Elmhurst

IF you would like to access the Modules as your students will, send email requesting access to the demonstration class to dave.basener@elmhurst.edu. The class will appear in your Current Courses as “BLAISE Teagle Demo Course”. This may take a couple of days.

Incorporating the Modules into Blackboard

After filling out the form requesting access to the OCC Modules (see BLAISE OCC), you will receive an email with links to the modules that you requested. Please use these links in completing the instructions for incorporating the OCC Modules into Blackboard.

1. In your Blackboard course go to your content area and click on Build Content.
2. Select “Web Link”.
3. Enter the name of the module for your students. This need not be the same name as the module itself.
4. Copy the corresponding URL from the email you received from the OCC Module Administrator.
5. Paste the URL into the URL textbox in Blackboard.
6. Check the box labeled “ This link is to a Tool Provider” below the URL textbox.
7. This opens additional resource options.
8. There are no tool provider XML options so that box is left blank.
9. If you wish to make the OCC work a gradable item in your course, click on the “Enable evaluation - Yes” radio button. This opens options for the gradebook.
10. You can add a description if you wish, but this is optional.

The remaining options are standard content attributes and the settings are up to you.

Assessing Your Students' Work in the Modules

For each class that you request access to the OCC modules, a class is created on the SmartSparrow platform. At the time of creation, you are made an Assistant in that class so that you can assess your students' progress. If you have incorporated individual modules as gradable items, as opposed to incorporating the OCC Learnspace, you can see your students' completions in Blackboard without going out to SmartSparrow. However, if you want a more detailed view, or if you have incorporated the Learnspace (which does not feed grades back into Blackboard) you would need to go out to Smartsparrow following these instructions.

1. Go to smartsparrow.com
2. Your username is the email address that you use in Blackboard (xxx@elmhurst.edu)
3. The first time you log into smartsparrow you need to complete the set up of your account which was initiated when the administrator made you an Assistant in your course.
   • On the login screen click "I forgot my password"
   • Enter your email address in the username box on the password recovery page. Smartsparrow will send a password reset link to your email account.
   • Follow that link and complete the questions for your profile.
   • At the end of this procedure you will be able to log in.
4. Click on Classes to see your courses.
