When people think of New York City, and, more specifically Manhattan, they think of the massive skyscrapers, the hustle-bustle, exciting entertainment, and most importantly, the yummy food. Manhattan thrives on its wide range of delectable treats for people to try. In this article, I will dive into bakeries in Manhattan that, from personal experience, are top-rated.
LEVAIN
167 W. 74th Street
With multiple locations throughout the city, Levain Bakery has an array of irresistibly delicious baked goods. They are primarily known for their rich, flavorful cookies: walnut, double chocolate chip, and, a seasonal favorite: peppermint. But, if cookies are not your thing, no need to worry; Levain boasts an assortment of bread, including banana chocolate chip, lemon loaf, and coffee. Other items include raspberry-filled donuts, brioches, scones, and muffins. Oh, and they also make yummy holiday-themed desserts!
DOMINIQUE ANSEL
189 Spring Street
Dominique Ansel Bakery is one for the books. The owner, Dominique Ansel, is the creator of the famed “cronut”, a cross between a croissant and a donut. Some other notable menu items include chocolate/raisin croissants, Nutella milk-bread, madeleines, frozen s'mores, and, get this—chocolate chip cookies shaped like shot glasses. Exquisite!
HARBS
465 W. Broadway
As they self-proclaim, “absolute freshness is the trademark of HARBS cakes.” And, as a customer, I have to agree. HARBS Bakery offers a nice variety of different Japanese-style cakes, including fresh fruit mille crepes, strawberry cakes, green tea mousses, baked cheesecakes with blueberry jam, and pear pies. The ambiance of the cafe also matches the cakes: soft and airy. Totally worth a visit!
FABRIQUE BAKERY
348 W 14th Street
When you step into Fabrique, the sweet smell of cinnamon mixed with the sight of fresh fluffy cream will instantly make you want to purchase something. If that is the case, Fabrique’s artisanal pastries include cinnamon buns, cardamom buns, semlor, raspberry cake, blueberry bun, and strawberry custard. The perfect place for your next grab-and-go snack!
