Welcome to the New England Section Society of Applied Spectroscopy Web Site. This is where you find out all the details about our upcoming events. In normal times we hold in-person dinner meetings every 6-8 weeks which feature non-commercial presentations on varied topics of spectroscopy. We're moving to a virtual setting for at least the next few months and will be featuring lunch time talks and will be sharing meetings with the New York Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy. We hope to "see" you at our meetings!

The First Student meeting of the Coblentz Society and NE & NY Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS) Sections

Thursday March 3rd, 12:00 noon EST Virtual Meeting
The Coblentz Society, New York SAS and New England SAS Sections are hosting a conference for presentations by Ph.D. students from across the world working in all fields of vibrational spectroscopy. We hope that this will provide an opportunity to showcase developments at the leading edge of vibrational spectroscopy and will cover applications of vibrational spectroscopy over a wide range of disciplines.

Researchers will have three minutes to present a compelling discussion on their work and its significance. There will be one-hour of virtual presentations followed by a 30-minute open discussion. The idea behind this is to provide wide dissemination and exposure of work and stimulate discussion. We hope this type of presentation will increase researchers’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills, and their capacity to effectively explain a research topic in three minutes and in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

We plan on resuming our meetings / presentations early in 2022, we'll be sending out announcements once we lock in the dates.

Wednesday, June 16th, 12:00-1:00. Dr. Brian C. Smith of Big Sur Scientific (and former chair of NESAS) presented a talk on "Applications of Mid-Infrared Spectroscopy in Cannabis Analysis".

Tuesday, March 30th, 12:00-1:00. Dr. Yeran Bai of Boston University presented a talk on Mid-IR Photothermal Effect - Bond Selective Imaging.

Wednesday, March 24th, 12:00-1:00. Dr. Dula Amarasiriwardena of Hampshire College presented a talk on "Exposure to Natural Lithium by Ancient Andes in Atacama, Chile: LA-ICP-MS Determination of hair Li Concentration in Andean Mummies.

Thursday, February 25th, 12:00-1:00. Dr. Anyin Li of the University of New Hampshire presented "New Developments in Ambient Ionization and Their Applications in the Analysis of Glycans, Native Proteins and Food Contaminants.

Thursday, December 3rd, 12:00-1:00. Dr. Mike Donahue of Headwall Photonics presented "Interpreting Hyperspectral Images for Counterfeit Identification in Printed Media"

Please join us in congratulating our Dr. Ellen Miseo, the recipient of the first 2021 #SAS Fellows Award for their service to the Society and contributions to #spectroscopy! The award will be formally presented during #SciX2021 in Providence, RI. Congratulations!
