Maria Plakhtieva

I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester, working on time preferences and individual choices. I work in both theory and empirical analysis. My research interests lie within several fields: Choice & Preferences, Mechanism Design, and Behavioural and Health Economics.

My current work is aimed at developing a theoretical model of measuring individual utility from kidney transplantation and modelling willingness to participate (and wait) in Kidney Exchange Programmes. For the empirical part, I work on estimating time discounting factor based on decisions of individuals to come back to labor force after recovery from severe health shocks, like cancer, using existing household panels and survey data. This work is conducted under the supervision of Professor Antonio Nicolo and Professor Martyn Andrews.
