Reflection Questions:
The government has some control over credit card companies, but as you have learned from the documentary Maxed Out, credit card companies have freedom to give and take personal information from consumers, charge interest rates, and use credit collectors who are known to harass customers in debt. Because of these freedoms, many Americans who are uneducated about credit make unwise decisions that eventually lead them to bankruptcy. As an American citizen, do you believe that credit card companies should have freedom as to how they treat their customers? Whose responsibility is it to make sure people use credit wisely: credit card companies, the government, or consumers?
As a young person who is about to establish his or her own credit and knowing that Social Security will probably be obsolete by the time you reach retirement age, what do you think are important for you to consider when making financial choices in terms of saving money, buying products and services, and using credit?
