OUR PURPOSE & STORY
The Agriculture Community Collab was established in 2021 to ignite a connection and awareness with agriculture in Nelson County. In the first year of the Agriculture Collab, students experienced PLACE BASED LEARNING through visits with a variety of community partners: Bernheim Forest, Country Place Greenhouse, Affinity Farms, Wright Implement, the National Farm Machinery Show, and the North American Livestock Expo among many others. Students received an introduction to agriculture and its many connections to the world.
By making direct connections within the community, students within the Agricultural Collab will be able to propose solutions to REAL WORLD ISSUES and partake in applicable learning opportunities. Each student in the Agriculture Collab will be tasked to solve agriculture community challenges through their SAE Project (Supervised Agriculture Experience). SAE development and Agriscience Fair research builds student ability to identify agricultural needs, extend agriculture learning outside of the classroom with community partnership, and reflect on the AFNR (Ag, Food, & Natural Resources) in alignment to national agriculture performance indicators.
Our Nelson County Community was built on the pioneering spirit of agricultural communities. It is our goal as an Ag Collab to embrace this pioneering spirit to prepare for the future innovations of our increasingly connected global agricultural landscape.
