Another Winter Sestina

Alexander Charney
Another winter, another year, and place-
Walking the lonely streets with lights
Feel the frozen breeze,
Loneliness, in an era of friends
You walk with me in this time
And make this world warm
If you leave now, I’ll never be warm.
You ask me if I enjoy this cold place
I tell you “To give it time.”
As we walk, you mention the lights.
You are my light, you are my friend-
And with you this world is a breeze.
The winds continue to blow a breeze
Your hand keeps me warm
Your not just a friend
We get to your place
I finally look up and notice your lights
But you go inside, it was time.
I didn’t want to leave this time.
Or be left to the breeze.
I want you and me to be beautiful lights
Please let me be warm
I don’t care about the place
I just want to be with you, my special friend
But you left me, in this era of friends.
I pass along, and so does time
Another winter, another year, and place-
I feel those cold frozen breezes,
But the thought of you keep me warm.
You turn off your lights
In the absence of lights,
We need our friends.
I began to miss your warmth
My journey continues to kill time
My only friend the breeze.
How could I enjoy this place?
I miss those lights and our time
Friend, you left like a breeze.
I head inside, your warm homely place.
