Argument-Driven Inquiry through the lens of Science & Literacy

Science in the Aisles

8:00 AM-12:00 PM at Tex Hill Middle School

Audience is k-12, but best for Elementary and MS Science Teachers

Lynne Christopher from San Antonio Water Systems (SAWS) will be presenting a session on how you can create exciting and engaging lessons from materials that can easily be obtained at the local hardware store. This is sure to be a highly engaging session in which you will walk out with great ready to use resources.

How can the Zoo Help You?

8:00 AM-12:00 PM at the San Antonio Zoo

Content is geared toward Elementary Teachers, but session is open to MS and HS teachers.

Teachers will get a first hand look at some of the opportunities the San Antonio Zoo offers for educators. In addition to field trips, the session will cover trunks that can be checked out and other ways the zoo can come into your classroom. Zoo admission for the day is covered as part of this session.

EcoRise Sustainable Intelligence Curriculum and Eco Audit Grants

8:00 AM-12:00 PM

Audience is k-12 Teachers

Sustainable Intelligence is an engaging, ready-to-use k-12 curriculum that builds a foundation of environmental literacy and sustainability knowledge. The Eco-Audit provides students with the opportunity to engage in authentic problem solving activities and actually compete to receive grant funding to actually do something to solve the problem. The first 12 teachers to register for this workshop will get one year subscription to the Sustainable Intelligence Program ($500 value).

Tying It All Together: Interdisciplinary STEM Learning

9:00 AM- 12:00 PM at Witte Museum

Content is geared toward Elementary Teachers, but session is open to MS and HS teachers.

How do we connect science learning with the world in which it takes place? Experience how the Witte Museum contextualizes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Explore how to reinforce STEM concepts and processes across academic disciplines through open-ended inquiry.

Putting EduSmart in the Hands of Students

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Tex Hill Middle School

EduSmart is only available to k-8 Science Teachers. Teachers need to bring a laptop they can use to access EduSmart through Launchpad.

Did you know that there is a full learning management system? You can assign work to students or groups of students that includes both EduSmart content and other content you or other publishers have created. Edusmart is also a great tool to assign things for small group instruction, stations, interventions, or course protection or recovery. Join us to learn about all you can do with EduSmart.

Participants that do not have student accounts will get to pilot student accounts for the remainder of the 2019-20 School Year.

Tackling the "A" in STEAM at the DoSeum

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at The DoSeum

The audience is elementary and middle school teachers

We envision tackling STEM & Arts through 3 proposals that are both independent and complementary of each other.

1. The use of Arts in the Science Classroom.

2. Maker Centered Learning with a focus on Systems thinking.

3. What does a model EiE (Engineering is Elementary) workshop look like?

Admission to the DoSeum is included in this workshop.
