AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY
Course Description
AP Human Geography introduces students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Through the examination of world cultures, human institutions, the effects of new technologies, local, regional and World Geography, students will investigate the patterns and processes that have shaped the human understanding of the planet on which we live. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice.
What does this mean? Basically, this course is about the world we live in. It will briefly cover some historical aspects but this only serves as a means to understand the now. We will learn to develop an understanding for people, cultures, and places by examining specific units in population geography,
cultural geography, political geography, agricultural and rural geography, economic geography, and urban geography. We will examine the why of the where.
