Hi all! I am excited to work and learn with you next year!
Of course, in our classroom, we will be focusing specifically on growing our math skills, but my main goals, as your teacher, stretch beyond that. To make this class and partnership more meaningful, my goals, as your teacher, will be:
to support you in your growth as not just a learner, but also a person; and
to provide opportunities for you to make connections between the math content, other subjects, and the world around you.
Your summer assignment is designed to help get us started in achieving both of those goals.
There are 4 parts, which are all included in the provided slides:
Part 1: Getting to know you as a person.
Part 2: Looking Behind (reflect on past math learning)
Part 3: Looking Beyond (look for math in the real world)
Part 4: Looking Deeper (read and reflect on an article about the math practices)
You must complete all parts to do well! It will take time, so try to do it throughout the summer.
Be sure to capitalize correctly and check for spelling errors using only the embedded spell check. Do not use Grammarly (as it can rewrite phrases for you) or AI to complete this assignment. Type directly into the slides. Do not write it somewhere else and then copy and paste.
Final Things to Note:
1. I expect your best work! READ THE RUBRIC!
2. You will be presenting your assignment to the class, starting the second week of school.
3. This assignment will NOT be accepted after the due date! DUE by FRIDAY, AUGUST 21 at 10 PM!
Please reach out if you have any questions. My email is agans@neisd.net.

This is NOT for students taking Art I Honors next year. There is no Summer Assignment for that course. This Summer Assignment is for students taking Upper Division Art (Art 2 Honors, Art 3 Honors, Drawing III, Drawing IV). You will submit your work to our Upper Division Art Google Classroom during the first week of school, in addition to bringing your completed artwork to school in-person.
