The Odyssey Novel Engineering project is an integrated approach to engineering and literacy inspired by the Novel Engineering project out of Tufts University.
Students use Gareth Hinds's graphic novel, The Odyssey, as the basis for an engineering design challenge where they are tasked with helping save Odysseus.
Students interact with the text to identify problems, brainstorm and design realistic and working prototypes, provide feedback to their peers, improve their designs, and share and reflect on their learning in a video post, all while keeping their client, Odysseus in mind. To guide and document students through the process, each team works through an interactive HyperDoc template.
