Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy
The Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GaTAPP) is an alternative preparation program that leads to a renewable certification approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). The program design is based on Framework for Teaching, by Charlotte Danielson and the Teacher-Candidates are assessed on 24 competencies in the domains of Planning and Preparation, The Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities. The program is specifically designed for Teacher-Candidates seeking initial certification and is a job-embedded, performance-based program with a supporting mentor component. Each Teacher-Candidate has a support team composed of a RESA supervisor, school administrator, and mentor-teacher to ensure their program success.
The program is designed to be a partnership between the school system and NEGA RESA to support the Teacher-Candidate as they work toward a renewable certification. This is not intended to replace regular college teacher education programs but is tailored for individuals who meet the program requirements to be a prospective teacher. On an important note, GaTAPP Teacher-Candidates are issued an Induction Certificate (IN4T) and will meet the criteria to be highly qualified.
