Our Mission
The mission of the Needville Independent School District Dyslexia Department is to:
Provide all dyslexic students with the multi-sensory and phonological awareness skills necessary to compensate for deficiencies in the areas of reading, writing, and spelling, in order to nurture a strong self-esteem and provide opportunities for them to develop their talents.
Meet Our Interventionists
Mrs. Gruber- Hello! I’m Amanda Gruber, and this is my 7th year as the Dyslexia Interventionist at NES. I previously taught second grade at NES for 11 years. I earned my B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies EC-4 from the University of Houston-Victoria and my M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. I have completed training in dyslexia/dysgraphia instruction and assessment through Neuhaus Education Center and Region 4 Education Service Center.
Mrs. Chilek - Hi there! I’m Elizabeth Chilek, and I service all dyslexic/dysgraphic students at NJH and NHS. As a certified reading specialist, I look forward to helping our students be successful in literacy as well as all their classes. My masters degree from University of Texas in literacy studies allows me to assist students that exhibit the characteristics of struggling readers. I completed my dyslexia instruction/assessment training through Region 10 ESC and Region 3 ESC. I am starting my 28th year in education.
Mrs. Kalkomey- My name is Melissa Kalkomey, and I am the Dyslexia Interventionist at Needville Middle School. This is my 26th year of teaching. I attended Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Education. I earned my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston. Through Neuhaus Education Center and Region 4 Education Center, I completed my training for Dyslexia instruction and assessment.
