Since Sam only lived in England as a baby and toddler, he doesn’t have any memories of living there. Sam has been back to where he grew up, and has been told things about his life there. He grew up in a flat in London, only a short walk from the River Thames. He would go to the park near his flat and go on walks by the river with his parents. His parents also have stories of taking him to the local pub to socialize with friends. He said that he can imagine himself in the places he frequented as a baby and has kind of formed memories that way.

Sam’s family was forced to move due to his father’s job. At the time, Mr. O’Sullivan was working for Gillette. The factory he was working at in England was relocating to Poland. His family was given the choice to relocate with the factory to Poland, or move to Boston, where Gillette is headquartered. The O’Sullivans chose to move to Boston because they speak English and knew people in the city.
