College

Shortly after reaching The United States, Rebecca stayed with relatives already living in Boston while she went to school. After two months of being in the United States, she met David Dyson, her future husband at The University of Massachusetts. She relied on public transportation like buses and trains to commute to school every day. She was able to graduate with her bachelor's in three years by studying every summer and not taking vacations. Rebecca was able to get an accounting job and worked full-time before she bought her first house with her husband in 1991. They both went back to school in 1994 in pursuit of their master's degrees at Bentley College. Education was a driving factor in why Rebecca decided to immigrate to the United States. While getting their master's degrees both Rebecca and David worked part-time in order to support themselves and pay for college. 2 years later they Both graduated in the year 1996 with their master's degrees.

Rebecca Fung and David Dyson got married in 1991 after going to school with each other for 3 years.

After College

After graduating college, the remainder of Rebecca's family members came to the united states, including her parents and sisters, however, their brother decided not to come. Despite this, the rest of her extended family also followed her to the Boston area to pursue college educations and start new lives in America.

Comfortable in their new home, David and Rebecca had their first child in 1999, a girl they named Leanne. 5 years later in 2004, they had their second child, a boy they named Scott. They ended up moving homes three times before they settled in Needham, MA.

Present Day

Today Rebecca has been living in Needham Massachusetts with her family of 4 for the past 16 years. She has had her job as an accountant for nearly two decades and is planning to retire. Her daughter (Leanne) is now 26 years old, she went to Northeastern University for her bachelor's degree and the Bocconi School of Management for her master's degree. Her son (Scott) is 18 years old and is a senior in high school.

Rebecca says that choosing to immigrate to the United States was one of the best decisions that she ever made. It opened the doors for opportunities that did not exist in Hong Kong. As well as being able to escape and not need to worry about the political uncertainty and censorship that came from the new government. She was able to make a better life for herself and her family that would otherwise not have been possible if she hadn't immigrated.
