Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal statute that prohibits
discrimination based upon a disability. It covers eligible students, employees and other individuals with disabilities for reasonable accommodations that enable them to work or learn. A person may be considered disabled under the definition of 504 if the individual has a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits one or more of the person’s major life activities.
