Fortnite settings

In Fortnite there are many different settings, some being more important than others and some more complicated than others, this guide will provide tips to enhance your gameplay. A thing that should be taken into consideration is if you want to play the game competitively or for its appearance. The settings you choose to turn on also depend on the power of your system. Unless you have a PC that can run Fortnite on its highest settings and match your monitor's refresh rate, it is recommended that some settings should be tweaked. You might be wondering, why do competitive players care about frames per second (FPS)? Ah, the dreaded lag and smoothness that all gamers hate! With a higher FPS you are able to see your opponents faster.

For instance if a player was to appear on  a 60hz player's screen it would take 1/60 of a second for the player to appear on their monitor, but if a player appeared on a 240hz player screen it would take 1/240 of a second for the image to appear. This advantage is crucial at lower frame rates but the differences from 240hz and 500hz are very minimal because human reaction time is a bigger limiter. For example one of the first things that should be set up is the frame cap on fortnite. Your monitor can only put in a certain amount of pictures per second and this can be determined pretty easily by looking at the specs of it. For example if it says 165hz then you should set your fps cap on fortnite to 165 because anything more than 165 hz you will not see it because your monitor cannot output it, it can also cause threading and unnecessary stress on the graphics processing unit, which can be abbreviated as GPU (The component in your PC that deals with creating the picture). Frames per second is one of many things that can be changed in your settings not just in fornite but in many different games.
