After almost 30 years in the United States, Marina has built a life that she is proud of. While she does not miss much about Ukraine, she cherishes the memories of her music college and the connection to her childhood. Her Jewish identity is still a strong part of who she is today, which was shaped with the help of her time in Israel and the traditions she had.
"I don't think your values change because of where you live... They are a part of you and stay with you no matter what." - Marina Gilman
Helping others has always been important to Marina. During the ongoing war in Ukraine, she supported a childhood friend who was sleeping in a train station to stay safe by organizing financial help and staying in contact. Now with the war in Israel, she feels the same worry for her friends and family there. Despite these challenges, she focuses on being grateful for the opportunities she and her family have in the U.S. A safe place without worry of having your house bombed.
Marina's story highlights her resilience, strength, and hope. From her love of music to her dream of teaching, she has shown that with determination and support, anything is possible. Her journey is not about where she came from, but about how far she has come and the love and support she has put into her children.
