Needham Public Schools 4th Grade Curriculum Summary
Your child is expected to read every day
In addition, your child will build a typical routine of homework (Monday-Thursday)
If homework is taking an excessively long time or you have questions or problems, please let me know (send an email) and have your child check in with me in the morning to promote self advocacy skills
I fully acknowledge how much you will be doing to support and help your child at home. I thank you for all of your time and effort and I truly look forward to partnering with you to make this a successful year for you and your child.
1. Set a Designated Homework/Study Time
Your child should know that a certain time everyday is reserved for doing work or studying. Most children benefit from having a little down time right after school to have a snack and unwind. Others prefer to tackle work right away and check it off their list! Include your child in making this decision and take after school activities into consideration.
2. Designate a Homework/Study Space
Your child should try to study in the same place every day. A quiet place with few distractions is a good choice. All school supplies and materials should be nearby. Some children like to have an adult nearby as this helps them focus if they have questions or need redirection. Thank you for your support!
3. Conduct a Weekly Review + Clean-Up
Encourage your child to sort through his/her desk and supplies on a weekly basis. A clean work space helps clear the mind to learn effectively. Review work and teacher comments with your child.
Your attention and support at home will ensure that your child will be as organized and stress-free as possible. Again, THANK YOU for all of your help and support in partnering with me this year. I appreciate you!
