GUNTHER SCHULLER

As a part of NEC’s week-long Festival honoring Gunther Schuller and his legacy, the NEC Jazz Orchestra will perform music by Schuller, his favorite jazz composers as well as the faculty he hired. Guests will include Fred Hersch and Carl Atkins, hired by Schuller to chair of the Jazz Studies Department.

AFRICAN COOKBOOK: MUSIC of RANDY WESTON and MELBA LISTON

Melba Liston served as Randy Weston’s arranger and collaborator for decades, creating legendary recordings together such as Little Niles and Uhuru Afrika. The concert will include Liston‘s work with Weston as well as her work with other artists, including Duke Ellington,  Dizzy Gillespie and Clark Terry.
