What is FPS?

Future Problem Solving is a nonprofit educational corporation administering creative problem solving activities in Nebraska and all over the world.  It was founded by creativity pioneer, Dr. E. Paul Torrance in 1974.

The program, designed for students in grades 4-12:

• stimulates critical and creative thinking skills,

• develops higher level thinking skills via the six-step problem solving method

• encourages students to develop a vision for the future,

• extends perceptions of the real world,

• explores complex societal issues,

• refines communication skills (written, verbal, and technical)

• prepares students for leadership roles,

• promotes research,

• encourages students to make knowledgeable decisions after an investigation of a variety of resources

• encourages cooperative, responsible group membership

• engages students in creative problem solving within the curriculum, and

• provides competitive opportunities.

Who participates?

• Future Problem Solving Program International involves thousands of students annually from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Turkey, and the United States.

• FPS is often sponsored by a teacher-coach through a school, but a parent or other volunteer can sponsor a team as well.
