SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

Diploma of Merit/Departmental Letter

Each applicant for a combination Diploma of Merit/Science Letter must meet each of the following requirements:

• Minimum of eight (8) semester hours of Science courses.

• Overall accumulated GPA of 3.00 or better (actual, not rounded), through third term grades.

• Science GPA of 3.700 or better (actual, not rounded)

• Complete at least 1 of the following requirements:

1. Complete a Science AP class with a B+ grade or higher and take the national test.

2. Complete a science fair project and receive an award from the district science fair and submit a write up of the project.

3. Complete a science related project (approved by science department), or participate in a science competition and submit a write up of the project or competition.

4. Pass one Science AP national test with a score of 3 or higher,

5. Complete a science concurrent enrollment class with a B+ grade or better.

Documentation

Each applicant is to prepare written documentation of completion of each for the requirements listed above.

Application deadline is the 3rd Friday in April!

Evaluation of Documentation

The written documentation will be subject to the final approval of the Science Department. Applicants receiving Science Diplomas of Merit/Science Letters will be awarded at the Senior Awards/Scholarship Assembly in May!
