First Grade Zones of Regulation
Introduction
The Zones of Regulation relates to the zones of our feelings.
Blue Zone - Low State of Alertness - Bored, Tired, Sad
Green Zone - Ideal State of Alertness - Here students are able to learn. Happy, Focused, Calm
Yellow Zone - Heightened State of Alertness - Students begin to lose some control of themselves and their learning. Anxious, Frustrated
Red Zone - Extremely heightened State of Alertness - Loss of control of emotions. Anger, Rage
Expected vs. Unexpected Behavior
Students learn the difference between expected and unexpected behavior. They learn how people respond to expected and unexpected behavior. Their behaviors can affect how people respond to them.
Good Thoughts vs. Uncomfortable Thoughts
Good Thoughts - Encourages interactions and helps people feel good about themselves and others.
Uncomfortable Thoughts - Result from unexpected behaviors. Thoughts that make us feel unsafe or unhappy.
Size of the Problem
Students learn how to identify the size of the problem and potential reactions to the problem.
